CUSTOM MADE MANNEQUINS

In medieval times, a suit of armour was an extravagant expense. It would have been tailor-fitted and made by highly skilled craftsmen.

A rare and beautiful artifact deserves a bespoke mount: a naturally posed, anatomical, historical reconstruction — a custom-made conservation support mannequin.

The aim is to make the armour "come alive" while not distracting from the aesthetic beauty of the craftsmanship.

Whether the pose is a conventional contrapposto or something more dynamic, a well-made mannequin will connect with and engage viewers.

CONSERVATION GRADE

Figures are carved from museum-grade Ethafoam (closed-cell polyethylene foam).

A custom welded steel skeleton is retrofitted.

Initial covering is synthetic stockinette with a final covering of hand-sewn felt.

PROCESS

Using measurements from the assembled armour, an anatomically proportional figure is carved in the desired pose.

A fitting with the armour is carried out for final adjustments and to note any special requirements.

Final finishing includes welded skeleton, stockinette, and hand-sewn covering.

HORSE MANNEQUINS

I have been making horses for museums and collectors for over thirty years.

I offer a selection of medieval-style horses in various poses, and smaller breeds more suitable for samurai displays.

CUSTOM-MADE SCULPTURES TO ORDER

Horse casts are made in fibreglass with a painted or flocked finish. The jaws have an invisible hinged joint for easy fitting of the bridle. Ears are detachable. The legs contain welded steel tube reinforcement. The method of attaching to a base mount varies depending on the nature of the display.
